Rod Sherlock
Born Ivanhoe, Melbourne 1952
Rod grew up in an environment surrounded by art, both his grandmother & father being prolific painters.
After leaving school, Rod worked in landscape garden design and construction.
Having always been fond of glass he moved to lead light and stained glass, completing a traineeship at Yenken Glass in 1972.
Rod inherited his sense of design from his father Max who encouraged him to attend a life drawing group and paint.
Rod worked as an independent glass artist along with sister Jenny Sherlock from the family studio in Eltham.
Work commissions at this time included figurative church memorials, domestic architectural pieces including both modern and traditional designs, repairs and renovations.
Rod and Jenny successfully ran Sherlock Glass Studio from Eltham until 1980 when the glass studio was moved to Fitzroy & operated until he sailed to North Queensland in 1983.
Rod discovered Port Douglas & fell in love with the Great Barrier Reef & the beauty of the underwater world.
He has worked in charter boats ever since pursing his passion for the reef & ocean.
Recently Rod has semi-retired & being inspired by a David Hockney exhibition has moved into digital art & has started painting again.
